Massimo Ricci, born in Milan on 5 May 1969, was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Gestore dei mercati energetici S.p.A. in July 2012.

He obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pavia in 1994 and a research PhD degree in Electrotechnical Engineering from the University of Pisa in 1998.

From 1994 to 1999, he worked at the “Centro Elettrotecnico Sperimentale Italiano” (CESI, Italian electrotechnical experimental centre), designing and implementing models for the planning and operation of power systems and conducting grid studies at both national and international level.
 
From 1999 to 2002, within the “Autorità per l’energia elettrica e il gas” (AEEG, Italian electricity & gas regulator), he carried out analyses on the rules governing supply offers/demand bids on the power exchange. He also dealt with the regulation of the access to power grids and of the dispatching activities of “Gestore della rete di trasmissione nazionale” (national Transmission System Operator).
 
In 2002, he was appointed Director of AEEG’s Power Grid Division.

From 2002 to 2005, he was Director of electricity & gas trading at Worldenergy SA, a company engaged in electricity & gas trading and project development.

From 2005 to 2006, he provided consulting services to AEEG and companies on the development of market and software models for analysis and management of electricity & gas markets.
 
In 2009, after holding the posts of Director of Electricity & Gas Dispatching, Transmission/Storage and of Coordinator of electricity-sector activities within AEEG’s Department of Markets, he was appointed Director of the same Department in charge of regulating and monitoring electricity & gas markets and services.
 
He authored numerous national and international scientific publications on energy matters.
